Chopin Early Editions
- The University of Chicago Library is home to a distinguished collection of over 400 first and early printed editions of musical
compositions by Frédéric Chopin. These editions are of particular interest to Chopin scholars and bibliographers because Chopin's works
were often published concurrently in several countries with variant texts. Early re-printings were issued using the same plates, causing
difficulties identifying first and subsequent impressions. Scholars can establish a sequence of publication by comparing a range of
printings. The collection at the University of Chicago, maintained in the Special Collections Research Center, contains evidence that
contributes to an understanding of the printing and publishing history of Chopin's works.
